Lunasa Festival

Date: 31/01/2025
Time: 10:00
Lunasa is an earth-friendly festival of multi-cultural world music, workshops, dance, community, connections and inspiration; an uplifting and creative environment for heart-centered people to flourish in resonance with nature.

The timing is during the ancient festival of Lughnasadgh (Lunasa) at the peak of summer, midway between the summer solstice and autumn equinox.

Musicians and live bands from Aotearoa-New Zealand and overseas bring conscious, innovative, traditional and original music with influences from around the world:
African, balkan, brazilian, celtic, european, folk, klezmer, irish, latin, blues, jazz, reggae and lots more.

The Lunasa stage will also feature dance workshops, a Balfolk Ball, a Ceilidh, and hosted improvised jam sessions featuring musicians from various bands.

Experienced presenters will be sharing a range of inspiration, fun and useful skills.

We are excited about the founders of Balfolk Aotearoa-New Zealand joining us to lead sessions on this revival of traditional European folk dances, accompanied by musicians playing at the festival. There is also a varied range of inspirational workshops relating to health and wellbeing, traditional arts & culture, music & rhythm, drumming, and other forms of dance from around the world. All workshops are free to attend for festival participants. Various sessions are also suitable for children.

Location:Canaan Downs Campsite (Harwoods Hole Tr carpark), Takaka Hill 7198
