The Ministry of Health is reporting 449 new cases of Covid-19 for Nelson Marlborough today.
This figure is higher than Nelson Marlborough Health’s announcement of 375 new cases for the region.
This discrepancy is due to different data cut-off times between for reporting cases between the Ministry and DHB.
Of the 375 new cases reported by Nelson Marlborough Health, 173 are in Nelson, 57 in Richmond, 51 in Blenheim, 40 in Mouteka/Moutere, 10 in Picton, and three in Golden Bay.
24 cases are in other areas of Tasman, and 15 are in other areas of Marlborough. A further two cases are marked as unknown/other.
This brings the total number of active cases in the region, according to the Nelson Marlborough Health, to 4,142.
Just over half of those cases – 2,208 – are in Nelson. 515 are in Richmond, 478 in Blenheim, 415 in Mouteka/Moutere, 82 in Picton, and 57 in Golden Bay.
203 cases are in other areas of Tasman, and 124 in other areas of Marlborough. 56 are marked unknown/other.
845 people are currently hospitalised with Covid-19, more than any other point over the past two years, four of which are in Nelson Marlborough.
The average age of those currently hospitalised is 54, and 16 of the hospitalisations are in the ICU or HDU.
21,015 new cases were announced nationwide today and the seven-day rolling average of cases is 19,741.
The Ministry had also announced that it’s changing the way it reports on Covid-19 deaths.
All deaths of people who die within 28 days of testing positive for the virus will automatically be reported. This approach is used by the United Kingdom and other countries.
This brings the number of publicly reported deaths up to 91.
New Zealand’s total number of Covid-19 cases has now passed 300,000 with 208,625 active community cases.
