Dusty conditions didn’t deter Corban Radford in the annual Matakitaki Rally Sprint near Murchison at the weekend. More than 30 drivers fronted for the event with Corban winning the 0-1300 cc class in his Suzuki Swift.
And another Nelson Car Club driver, Neville Kidd, won the two-wheel open division in his Ford escort.
The overall winner, who raced his Mitsubishi lancer under the number 1 banner, was Blenheim’s Richard Bateman. The event was staged by the Westland Car Club and organiser Kevin Lynch says, while there was the odd unplanned off-road excursion, the seven hours of racing went off smoothly.
