An investigation has been launched after a bus "made contact with a residential fence" Bateup Rd, Richmond on Monday.
Shortly before 4.30pm, Nelson City Council were made aware of the incident involving an eBus that has finished travelling on route 2 and was not in service at the time.
"There were no passengers on the bus and there were no injuries to the wider public or the driver," group manager infrastructure, Alec Louverdis said. "The eBus had made contact with a residential fence at relatively low speed resulting in some minor bumper and rear panel damage."
The fence was damage, but council staff checked in with the owner who says he will replace the aging fence.
"Within 25 minutes of the incident the bus involved had been driven to a nearby bus stop before being driven back to the mechanic bay at the depot, and a replacement bus arrived to rejoin the network, a delay of only 13 minutes," he said.
Pedestrians were bemused as to how the bus came to be where it was, as it was the rear of the bus that had collided with the fence.
"An investigation into the incident has been launched and at this time Council are unable to make any further comment."
