Missing last year’s MTB Enduro New Zealand Championships, made Nelson peddler Lennard Mund even more determined to feature last weekend.
Illness ruled him out of the 2024 event but this time the 21-year-old was a convincing winner.
“Local knowledge probably helped. The new tracks were great,” declared Lennard who was back working at Gravity Nelson on Monday where coaching young riders is one of his casual roles.
Making the weekend even more satisfying was his coaching involvement with two of the junior mtb enduro winners.
Pippi Taylor, who starred at last year’s national schools champs in Christchurch, took out the U15 girls’ section while Josef Houghton, won the boys’ U15.
Nina McIntosh graduated from winning the U15 girls’ last year to riding off with the U17 title at the weekend
The elite sections also went to two of Nelson’s top riders with last year’s runner up Brady Stone going one better in the UCI Pro-male and Xanthe Robb claiming the honours in the UCI Pro-female class.
