Nelson North Country Club representative Kevin Bannan has once again presented a cheque to Nelson Tasman Hospice on behalf of the Hira Hop.

The $500 proceeds were donated on Friday from proceeds of January’s Hira Hop.
The car show was the brainchild of the country club’s former bar manager Deidre Prattley, who lost her life two years ago after a battle with cancer.

Mark Anderson (Hank), her partner of 14 years, made the donation in her name last year, but sadly this year, the donation was in Mark’s name after he lost his battle with illness, and eventually cancer, in October.

A hospice spokesperson says with a funding shortfall of over $3.5m this year, donations like this are the reason they can provide care and support free of charge for the rapidly-growing number of patients, families and whānau who need it.

Kevin says, despite the weather in Nelson city, there was a great turnout to the show, evident in the donation gained solely from the gold coin entry donation.
The winner of the event was Paul Keenan with his 67 ford mustang.
