The Tasman Valley Young Farmers Club hosted its first-ever Bark Up competition at Tapawera, drawing dogs from around the region, and as far as Kaikōura.

Caitlin Logan, Tasman Valley Young Farmers Club publicity officer, says that Bark Ups are popular in other areas around the country and the club has been wanting to host one.

The Bark Up saw dogs competing in three categories: Pet Bark, Female Dog, and Male Dog. Dogs were judged on their bark’s duration, power, control, and personality.

“The dogs weren’t allowed to bark outside their turn, which was a little challenging for some,” Caitlin adds.

The winners for the day were: Pet Bark – Mila, Female – Mel, and Male – Wally. These talented dogs impressed judges with their barks.

Caitlin expressed excitement about the event’s success and thanked all participants, judges, and volunteers. “It went really well, we learned a lot from it, and we are excited to grow the event in the future,” she said. The club looks forward to hosting the competition again next year.

The Tasman Valley Young Farmers are looking to grow their club and are offering a heavily discounted membership for those aged 16 to 31. For more information, email [email protected] or find them on Facebook.
