Pasifika on a plate

A “really great ambience” and a beautiful Pasifika-themed meal are on offer at Motueka’s upcoming Kai and Korero event.

Spaces are still available for this Sunday’s cooking demonstration, with raw fish, fry bread, cassava, beef mince and coconut all featuring on the three-course menu.

Three Motueka-based women have been fine-tuning their menu, with Renèe Pāhulu offering Māori and Tongan dishes to complement the cuisine created by ni-Vanuatu Serah Tong and Soloman Islander Sandra Richards.

Much effort is also going into decorating the space, with tapa cloth and leaves adorning the tabletops.

The event is run though Multicultural Nelson Tasman, and coordinator Sez Fyfe says that the women are “very excited and wanting to share their Pasifika culture, telling stories about the foods and the traditions that accompany them”.

This is Motueka’s second Kai and Kōrero event, following a sold-out Cambodian cooking class in January.

The event is to be held Sunday, 30 March, from 10am-2pm, at the Motueka Memorial Hall kitchen on Pah Street.  The cost is $25 per person, which includes recipes and lunch.  To register, contact [email protected] or 022 300 8896.
