For Ryan and Roxy Gibson, bringing BedsRus to Nelson Junction was more than just a business move - it was about creating a lifestyle for their family while offering top-quality, New Zealand-made beds to the local community.

With years of experience in business and franchising, the couple saw an ideal opportunity in the BedsRus franchise, an iconic Kiwi manufacturer with over 86 years of expertise. “The whole Gibbons development at Nelson Junction was of strong interest to us from the very beginning, and what we loved about the BedsRus franchise was that they hold a great reputation, and everything is made in New Zealand. The brand is new to the region, and we are excited to be the people bringing it here. This was a big plus for us.”

Before diving into the world of sleep, Ryan and Roxy owned an optometry business. While the industries may seem different, Ryan believes many of the same skills apply. “With this, we’re still in the business of helping people,” he says. “We stock over 50 different beds, each offering something unique. The clinical elements of my previous business transfer over really well- it’s about the customer at the end of the day and building that rapport.” A standout feature at BedsRus Nelson Junction is the Sleepmapbed-matching system. “This pressure-mapping technology takes the confusion out of choosing a bed by pinpointing exactly what our customers need. It’s completely unique in the industry, helping people find the perfect bed and pillow based on actual data.”

The couple, who relocated from Auckland in 2023, had their sights set on Nelson as the ideal place to raise their children. “We wanted flexibility for our family and to bring our children up in a community environment,” says Ryan. “Seeing the girls play at friends’ houses down the street and making that happen has been a great feeling.” As proud local business owners, the family are passionate about giving back to the community. “To date we have partnered with Nelson Rugby, the local Lions Club, Wakatu Dance Theatre, BFT Nelson, Design Collective NZ and local schools.”

To celebrate BedsRus Nelson Junction’s first birthday, they are giving customers a chance to win a brand-new Sleepyhead Serenity bed. “Just pop in for a free, no-obligation Sleepmap session before the end of March, and you’re in the draw!”
