A water collection point has been established for 43 Nelson South properties without water supply following a nearby watermain that burst this morning.

Nelson City Council (NCC) group manager infrastructure Alec Louverdis says the incident on Waimea Rd between Boundary Rd and Tukuka St was first reported at 7:15am, and Nelmac is working to repair the water pipe and damage to the road.

A full road closure between the residential side streets is in place and drivers in and out of Nelson are advised to use Rocks Rd to avoid congestion.

Alec says council aims to restore water by about 3pm, but the road closure may need to stand for longer.
