Nelson has had a second water main burst within a matter of hours.

Nelson City Council says Washington Road is currently closed between the St Vincent St roundabout and Hastings St after a watermain failure.

“Contractors are onsite undertaking repairs. The watermain has been isolated and will not impact water delivery to properties,” it says.

“We expect the repair to take approx six hours.”

Traffic is being detoured along Hastings St.

Earlier a water main burst on Waimea Rd between Boundary Rd and Tukuka St was first reported at 7:15am.

A full road closure was prompted and 43 properties were without a water supply.

The water restoration had a 3pm target, but council said the road may need to remain closed after that period.
