Fierce competition at Te Ipukarea

Eight iwi from the Top of the South battled it out in the tenth annual Te Ipukarea games in Nelson over the weekend.
The heavy rain forced the golf tournament at Waahi Taakaro, and the waka ama at Tāhunanui to be abandoned, but 10 other sports went ahead including euchre and debating.
There was plenty to compete in and watch at the Saxton complex on Saturday.
As one Ngāi Tahu visitor commented, there was some pretty fierce competition going on next to the Saxton athletics track.
Last year, Ngāti Koata and Ngāti Kuia were first equal overall but there was no overall winner declared this year, rather each sport had its individual champions.
