Working dogs will be put to the test in the final trial of the season and the Waimea club is opening their gates to spectators.
The Waimea Sheep Dog Trial Club will host its 104th annual dog trial on Saturday, 26 April, at 320 Higgins Rd, Wakefield.
The event will feature all four categories – heading dogs and huntaways – starting early in the morning, with the public invited to watch the action. As there are strict rules about dogs on trial grounds, it is better to leave your pet dogs at home, but the rest of the family can enjoy a free, fun day out watching clever sheep trying to outwit skilful dogs.
As the final trial of the season in the Top of the South, competitors will be chasing crucial qualification points for the South Island championship, with many travelling from some distance to participate. We hope to see you and your family there.
The Forsyth Barr has sponsored the cookhouse and will be selling, as a club fundraiser, a selection of home baking, tea, and coffee, while outside, Tasman Valley Young Farmers will be assisting with the sale of sausages and gourmet burgers. For those looking for a local treat, Farmalade and plum jam will also be available for sale at the secretary’s box.
