In a bid to try and avoid lopsided football scores, a sharing of players policy has taken effect in the Nelson Bays senior women’s premiership.
The Motueka Angels had three “ring-ins” for their season opener against the strong Nelson Suburbs side at Memorial Park in Motueka.
The Coldstore Construction Richmond Swans Nicky Kolk, Sally Henery and Sarah Board had a bye so turned out for the Angels.
The swift Suburbs side raced to a 9-0 lead and then the mercy rule kicked in.
In the second half Jemima Daniels scored for the Angels but the goal didn’t officially count. That is something players want to see change.
The Get Cars FC Nelson Diamonds and Wakefield FC are also able to loan up to three players from other teams.
he Diamonds lost 8-0 to the Hothouse Creative Richmond Foxes and Wakefield was beaten 9-0 by the Sprig & Fern Tahuna Breakers.
In the closest match, the Golden Bay Shield Maidens beat the Fairview Mapua Cougars 3-0.
