Organisers of the Easter10 BMX race meeting are delighted with race numbers for this weekend.
“We had 48 entries last year, but with our riders travelling around to compete word has spread about our annual event and we have attracted 76 entries. We are stoked to have riders from the North Island and all over the south,” enthuses meeting manager Rachel Rogers.
That’s enough for 10 races, hence the two-day meeting’s title. Numbers are growing at the Nelson BMX Club and Rachel hopes to have more than 30 of their members competing at the revamped Tāhunanui track next to the back beach.
As well as veteran rider Cory Green, 16-year-olds Corey Kingston and Kayla Stevens are locals to look out for.
Corey was the highest overall points scorer in the Nelson club season.
But injury has ruled out Rachel’s 11-year-old-son Waipapa who crashed heavily and broke his arm while practising for a competition in Christchurch,”
“He will be helping out instead and cheering on his mates,” says Rachel.
There will be five races on both days, starting at 2pm on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
