Nelson City Council has issued an urgent notice to dog walkers on Monday after poisonous pellets were found in the Wakapuaka Sandflat area.
The blue or green pellets are highly toxic to animals and humans. Contractors are on site removing the hazards, and warning signage is being installed.
People are warned to keep dogs away from the area completely until further notice and not to touch the pellets.
If you suspect your dog has ingested anything suspicious, please seek immediate veterinary attention.
