Ged and Nadia Hay bring passion, teamwork, and proven results to every property they list.

With over 20 years of combined industry experience, New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty Nelson’s husband-and-wife duo, Nadia and Ged Hay, have established themselves as a formidable team, earning national recognition for their achievements.

Ged explains that he entered real estate in 2006 after selling the couples adventure tourism business, Mad Dog River Boarding, in Queenstown. “Two longtime friends were launching a boutique real estate firm and brought me on board, recognising my background in tourism and real estate as a landlord and investor. Real estate was a natural fit,” he says.

Nadia later joined once their children were in school, having already been actively supporting Ged behind the scenes. Their transition into working together highlights their complementary skills and dedication. Their commitment has earned them recognition as New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty National High Achiever Award winners for 2024.

“To achieve High Achiever status, licensees, partnerships, and teams must meet a nationwide target for the company,” says Nadia.

This milestone underscores their ability to excel in a competitive market. “For us, it’s a testament to our dedication, hard work, and expertise in the real estate field.”

Working as a married couple can be challenging, but their professional history has laid a strong foundation. “We’ve spent years working together, managing rental investments and running our tourism business, so transitioning into real estate together felt quite instinctive.”

The couple explain that they leverage their individual strengths to efficiently divide responsibilities. “In our professional environment, we focus on being colleagues and teammates, not just husband and wife.”

Nadia’s background in public relations and marketing enhances their client interactions. “Public relations are centred around writing and communication - skills that, in real estate, are incredibly valuable. We interact with a wide range of buyers and homeowners, each with their own preferred communication style. Tailoring our approach is essential,” she says.

Ged’s experience in property valuation and investment further strengthens their service. “I offer different viewpoints based on my experience as a property owner and developer. People appreciate my honest, practical advice,” he shares. “We’re passionate about property. Real estate keeps you on your toes with its challenges, from market fluctuations to complex negotiations. But that’s what we love about it!”

For Nadia and Ged, the most rewarding aspect of their work is the relationships they build. “We genuinely enjoy working with our clients, fellow professionals, and everyone involved in the process.
