Police are investigating after a house caught fire on a Nelson street on Wednesday night.
Detective Sergeant Ian Langridge says they are investigating the "suspicious" house fire that left one person with serious injuries.
At around 9:50pm last night emergency services received reports of the house fire, which sparked a response from Fire and Emergency NZ.
At its peak, six fire trucks and crews were working to contain the fire. The house did not have working smoke alarms.
St John Ambulance transported one person to Nelson Hospital in a serios condition.
"A scene guard remains in place and Police are following positive lines of enquiry as to what happened," Langridge says.
