Waimea schools dominated this year’s Showquest competition, which was held at the Theatre Royal on Friday.

Showquest is Aotearoa’s largest student performing arts competition in which student groups must create an eight to 10 minute performance using the elements of art, music, dance, drama, culture, and technology.

In the junior section, Henley School took out the winning spot with their piece titled ‘Wings of Attitude’, a retelling of Dav Pilkey’s comedy ‘Two Birds’.

In the open section, Waimea Intermediate School took the title with their piece themed ‘Unboxed’, a tale of young people defying societal norms by challenging expectations around identity, success and conformity.

Waimea College placed second in the open section with ‘Star of the Show’ awarded to student Kaitlyn Little.

A national digital final will name the top entry nationwide in August.
