Every piece of handmade pottery at this weekend’s Craft Potters Christmas sale started life as a lump of clay that has been turned into a unique creation.
Tableware to fairy houses will be on sale at the Ranzau Rd pottery studio and committee member, Karin Roehling, says the sale is well timed for buying that Christmas gift that can’t be purchased anywhere else.
This year is the club’s 50th anniversary and Karin says the sale includes the broad mix of pottery that comes from potters who are “old hands” through to relative beginners and those who are strictly throwers on the pottery wheel to hand builders. Each piece has its own style, reflecting the artist’s creativity and craftsmanship.
“It will be chocker with pottery,” she says. “Pottery is very therapeutic and the making and selling both give so much.”
Having said that, she says her garden is full of pottery she has made that becomes a keeper.
The sale runs between 10am and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, with potters on hand to answer pottery questions.
