Covid-19 has arrived back in Nelson with a Nelson Marlborough District Health Board spokesperson today confirming a case in the Tasman region.
Public health officials are investigating recent travel to Auckland as the possible source of their infections though the cases are not yet confirmed as the Omicron variant.
Case interviews are underway and locations of interest will be added to the Ministry’s webpage where contacts at exposure events cannot be identified.
Dr Alexandra Greig, Nelson Marlborough Medical Officer of Health says they would like to thank the cases for their prompt action in coming forward for testing.
"This has allowed for a swift public health response. It is a timely reminder for anyone with symptoms, no matter how mild, to get tested.”
Everyone in New Zealand aged five years and over is eligible for free COVID-19 vaccination.
Those over 18 who are fully vaccinated can also book their free booster.
“Scientific evidence shows that vaccination has a huge effect in reducing the chance that somebody infected with COVID-19 will have a severe illness and reduces the risk of transmission in the community.”
Location of interest
Nelson Tasman residents and visitors are asked to monitor Ministry of Health’s locations of interest page, and follow the instructions given on that page if you’ve been at a location of interest.
