ACOB cruise to TPL title

Athletic College Old Boys has won back to back Tasman Premier League titles, following superb all-round performances from the Zohrab twins.

ACOB cruised to a six-wicket victory at Saxton Oval this afternoon against the Marlborough Falcons.

Batting first, the visitors found themselves a in a deep hole at 53/6, before the tail wagged just enough to give the Falcons something to bowl to.

Harry Boyce would top score with 42 while Thomas Zohrab was incredibly economical, conceding just 12 runs from his 10 overs and picking up two wickets.

Twin brother David was equally difficult to get away, just 18 runs coming from his ten overs.

Brady Barnett, Mason Lund and Reuben Smith all picked up double scalps as the Falcons were dismissed for 141 with eleven balls remaining.

The Zohrab's inflicted further pain with the bat, each scoring half centuries and sharing a 92-run partnership.

David would finish unbeaten on 60 as ACOB reached 142/4 in 37.4 overs.

Skipper Ollie-Jones Allen says it is a real luxury having players of the Zohrab’s quality in their side.

“That run chase was tailor made for them. Being under pressure early in our innings, to show that level of temperament and patience on a tough wicket was high class batting, and a pleasure to watch.”

Ollie says the twins’ contributions have been immeasurable.

“It’s been great to see Dave excel opening the bowling with his off spin this season. It’s a huge point of difference for us having that at our disposal and you always know what you’re going to get when you throw Thomas the ball, he is always very miserly and picks up wickets at key times.”
