A major water main has burst in Richmond, closing the road and leaving a small portion of homes without water.
A Tasman District Council spokesperson says the water main burst on Upper Queen St earlier on Thursday.
"Currently, there is no water for houses between Hill and Warwick Street, but others in the area could potentially be affected," the spokesperson says.
Repairs are expected to take six hours, so water will be out to the homes for most of the day.
"Our contractor has also had to close the road so these repairs can be completed safely. If you live in the area, please follow the directions of our traffic management team on-site."
