Summer festival Bay Dreams has made the "difficult decision" to cancel their 2022 event in Nelson and Tauranga, citing struggles to obtain MIQ spots for international artists.

"We have made the difficult decision to give Bay Dreams the year off in 2022," a statement has read.

Organisers confirmed that refunds will be automatically issued for all ticket holders.

Bay dreams have confirmed to return in 2023, in the hope there will be "more clarity around hosting our major international talent".

Bay Dreams attracted 13,000 festival-goers to the Nelson region in January 2021 and have announced they will be hosting two electronic events in both Nelson and Tauranga.

The festival announced they are working with Trademark Live who have secured quarantine spaces for Netsky, Hybrid Minds, Friction & Koven so far.

Tickets for the new show will be limited in numbers and Bay Dreams ticket holders will receive first access to purchase for the new show that will be held on 5 Jan 2022, the original festival date.

Tickets for the R18 show go on sale Wednesday, 20 October at 7pm.
