Two people have been taken to Nelson Hospital following a house fire that erupted in Motueka early Sunday morning.

A St John spokesperson says one of the two persons injured at the Selwyn St property was transported in a serious condition via ambulance to Nelson Hospital.

The other patient was also transported to Nelson Hospital in a minor condition following the blaze.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson Alex Norris says emergency services were alerted to the scene at about 5.45am Sunday.

Alex says crews arrived on the scene this morning to a "well-involved" house fire.

He says eight FENZ crews have attended the scene over the course of the day and a fire investigator remains at the scene.
