Man in custody following early morning car fire

Police confirmed a man has been taken into custody following a car fire in Riwaka earlier this morning.

Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson Jill Higgison says FENZ were alerted to a car fire at the corner of Green Tree and School roads in Riwaka around 3.50am Tuesday.

Upon arrival, FENZ reported the fire were "well-involved" though crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

A police spokesperson says they were called to assist FENZ shortly after 4am.

Police say they took one male into custody in relation to the incident.
