Nelson Sports Awards winners announced
Despite Covid often taking centre stage, Nelson athletes continued to excel in their sporting endeavours over the past year, highlighted by the quality entrants to this year's Nelson Sports Awards.
The awards recognise the very best in the region's sporting landscape across eight categories – Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Junior Sportsman of the Year, Junior Sportswoman of the Year, Team of the Year, Junior Team of the Year, Coach of the Year and Masters Sportsperson of the Year.
Founded in 1959, and originally called the Nelson Marlborough Sportsman of the Year Awards. The awards were designed to recognise outstanding performance in the field of sport within the Nelson and Marlborough districts.
The awards have become a premier sports event for the Nelson and Tasman districts. Over their course many local, national and world champions have been honoured for their achievements and their impact on our community.
The awards this year have been conducted via an online presentation, below, in place of the traditional dinner.
