Patient flown in serious condition after near drowning

A patient was flown in a serious condition to Nelson Hospital following a near drowning in the Maitai on Tuesday.

Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter pilot Euan Stratford says crews responded to a "drowning" near the Hira Forest around 11.40am Tuesday.  

He confirmed crews transported the patient to Nelson Hospital shortly after arrival.

St John spokesperson Amy Milne says St John were called to the incident and confirmed the one patient was treated and airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.
