Public come to fallen woman's aid

A woman who fell 10 metres onto rocks was aided by members of the public while emergency services arrived.

The woman suffered serious injuries in the fall and had to be airlifted to Nelson Hospital by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter.

Fortunately, several people assisted the woman, using a standup paddleboard to float her onto the beach.

Duty pilot Colby Tyrrell says they were on their way back form a job in Okiwa Bay when the call came in and were re-tasked to the incident at Kaka Point, on the north side of the Kaiteriteri Domain.

He says the woman was suffering significant injuries.

Colby says it was heartwarming to see the public offering assistance.
