Fire and Emergency NZ crews responded to a rubbish fire in the backyard of a Waimea Rd property Thursday afternoon.

Two Nelson crews attended the small blaze just after 4.20pm.

According to FENZ spokesperson Andrew Norris the blaze was initially suggested as the back of a property being on fire.

"At first a person said the back of the house was on fire, it turned out just to be someone's rubbish in the backyard," says Andrew.

The fire was quickly extinguished upon arrival and fire crews had left the scene by 5pm.
