Serious crash closes deviation

A person has been critically injured in a crash on the Richmond Deviation on Monday morning.

A police spokesperson says they were notified of the three-vehicle crash at 6:50am.

The northbound lane of SH6 was initially closed between Queen St and Whakatu Drive but has now reopened, however the southbound lane is now closed while work continues at the scene.

Southbound traffic is being diverted via Salisbury Road and Queen Street.

St John spokesperson Gerard Campbell says one person has been critically injured and another has minor injuries. Both have been transported to Nelson Hospital by ambulance.

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
