In what is becoming a summertime staple, Piece of Work Productions' annual summer show at Fairfield House presents a perfect night of hilarious entertainment with their rollicking take on Carlo Goldoni's "The Servant of Two Masters."
Featuring an incredibly talented cast of Myles Smalley, Imogen Vlugter, Matthew Edgar, and Molly Clarke. This fab foursome manages to morph into a slew of multiple characters all while delivering a riotous ride that'll have you chuckling all night.
The story involves a high-stakes game of mistaken identity, a cunning servant named Truffaldino, and a laugh-out-loud series of close calls and clever escapes. With so many quick costume changes it's like a comedy magic show, and these actors pull it all off with style with special thanks to their masterful stage manager Michaela Sheehan leading the way backstage.
Truffaldino, played by Myles Smalley, is the maestro of mischief who steals the spotlight with a performance that's part acrobatics, part cartoon comedy.
What sets this production apart is its modern twist on the old-school charm. The Direction by Anton Bently doesn’t just dust off a classic – but breathes new comedic life into it. It's commedia dell'arte meets your favorite sitcom, and the results are fabulous.
Fairfield House provides the perfect setting for this summertime show. Whether you bring a picnic or enjoy the food cart the experience should be high on your summer to-do list. The seating invites you to become part of the hilarity, and the fourth wall is more like a picket fence – easily hoppable.
The joy of watching live theatre in an outside setting should be cherished and in a world where prices are driving everyone indoors some experiences can’t afford to be missed and this is one of them.
Piece of Work Productions' "The Servant of Two Masters" is comedy gold. If you're up for a night of belly laughs, clever twists, and actors who juggle characters like they've got a dozen balls in the air, this is the show to catch.
