From 1972 Barrie was involved with the Otago Regent Theatre Trust until retiring to Nelson in 2012.  Over many years he was involved with the construction of  floats for Dunedin's Festival Week. Barrie continued to share his talents with many other organisations and charities over his years in Dunedin.
