Flooding closes Rocks Rd

Heavy overnight rain closed Rocks Rd amongst others flooded and closed this morning.

Waka Kotahi New Zealand Transport Agency warned Nelson commuters to avoid closed Rocks Rd between Haven Rd and Bisley Ave this morning due to flooding.

The road reopened shortly before 1pm Tuesday.

Waka Kotahi advised Nelsonians that contractors were monitoring the situation and were allowing heavy vehicles through this route when possible and deemed safe.

Waka Kotahi also issued a road hazard warning for SH60 between Hamama Rd and Paynes Rd Bridge in Tākaka.

According to MetService rainfall in the Nelson region met its peak at approximately 7am Tuesday morning, with 10.6mm of rain predicted over the hour.

MetService issued another heavy rain watch for the Richmond Range and Rai Valley just before 10am Tuesday.

Periods of heavy rain and possible thunderstorms are predicted in the area from 9am to 1pm Tuesday.
