The Tahuna Beach Holiday Park, the NBS Nelson Giants and Nelson Coachlines have teamed up to give local kids an unforgettable experience.

They have resurrected the iconic local double-decker bus for a new lease of life, offering schools the opportunity to get up close and personal with their basketballing heroes.

The Giants Experience is aimed at primary-aged children, providing an all-inclusive day of fun for the five local schools who have signed up.

Starting with a trip out to Saxton Stadium in the double-decker bus, the next generation of youngsters are then given a behind-the-scenes tour of their facility by the Giants.

They learn about the Giants’ team values and culture, before getting to do some skills, drills and games with their local basketballing icons.

Tahuna Beach Holiday Park chief executive, David Pattinson, says he made up his mind to support the programme “pretty quickly” after it was presented to him.

“It’s part of giving back to the community, we’re a family holiday park.

“Anything for kids to put their devices down and get into sport is a win.”

David says they paid for the use of the bus, which was offered by Nelson Coachlines at a discounted rate.

Based on the initial success of the first sessions, he says it’s something they would be keen to continue into future seasons.
